Charities and Community Service

The following are organizations or projects that we support on an on-going basis. There are often other charities and causes that we also help when an opportunity arises.

The Team Selfridge Family Relief Fund.
Selfridge Air National Guard Base, the 127th Wing is host to more than 30 tenant units representing every branch of the military - active duty, Reserves and National Guard - the Coast Guard, Border Patrol and the US Customs and Border Protection Northern Air and Marine Wing. Team Selfridge Family Relief Fund provides family services for our military families stationed at Selfridge.

The mission of Children’s Leukemia Foundation of Michigan is to provide and promote compassionate, personalized support to people in Michigan affected by leukemia and other related disorders.

Covenant House Michigan is a sanctuary for young people who have nowhere to go. Kids who come have been abused and neglected, have slept on friends' couches or in abandoned buildings. These kids have been forgotten by those who are supposed to care about them the most.

When they come throughthe "gates", they become part of a family. The staff, volunteers and donors carry out our mission based on faith and the belief that all of God's children deserve unconditional love, respect and hope.

Wigs 4 Kids
Wigs 4 Kids main focus is on cancer patients and includes other young people with similar appearance related challenges that cause hair loss such as:, alopecia, trichotillomania, lupus, hydrocephalus, burns and other disorders.

The Alzheimer's Association has a special significance for Jimmy Buffett due to the fact that his father suffered from debilitating disease prior to his passing in 2003.

Our club participates in two major yearly fundraising events that are hosted by Alzheimer's. The 'Memory Walk' takes place during the summer at the Detroit Zoo. The 'Bowling Bonanza' is a late winter event that is held at two locations in the area (one east, one west).

Forgotten Harvest has provided hunger relief to the metro Detroit area since August 1990. Donated food is transported by Forgotten Harvest directly to soup kitchens and shelters in our communities. Their stated Mission is:
"To relieve hunger in our community by rescuing surplus, prepared and perishable food and donating it to emergency food providers."
This is our 'Happy Hour' charity. We ask that drop your loose change into our donation box as $1.00 will provide 5 MEALS.

If you are traveling down Van Dyke between 16 and 18 Mile Rds., you will spot an Adopt-a-Highway road sign with our club's name on it. Three times a year we gather the phlock and become 'Orange Breasted Parrots' in our safety vests as we clean up this stretch of road and leave the world a little better than we found it.

Thanks to ALL who partiipated in our three highway clean up dates in 2011.
