Hi Kari,
On behalf of our entire staff and our over 4400 members, please extend our appreciation and gratitude to the Detroit Parrotheads for the phenomenal work they did in our gardens last Saturday. The extensive weeding, raking, topsoil moving, and swing re-location has really enhanced our garden areas which are now ready for the planting of annual flowers. Your entire group should be commended for their community spirit and support of Gilda's Club Metro Detroit. Thanks again to all who participated.
Sincerely,
Jim

Charities and Community Service
The following are organizations or projects that we support on an on-going basis. There are often other charities and causes that we also help when an opportunity arises.
The Alzheimer's Association has a special significance for Jimmy Buffett due to the fact that his father currently suffers from this debilitating disease. (Update: Jimmy's father, James Delaney Buffett, passed away on May 1, 2003 after 10 years with Alzheimer's)
Our club participates in two major yearly fundraising events that are hosted by Alzheimer's. The 'Memory Walk' takes place during the summer at the Detroit Zoo. The 'Bowling Bonanza' is a late winter event that is held at two locations in the area (one east, one west).
Forgotten Harvest has provided hunger relief to the metro Detroit area since August 1990. Donated food is transported by Forgotten Harvest directly to soup kitchens and shelters in our communities.
This is our 'Happy Hour' charity. We ask that you bring a can or two of food with you to each monthly happy hour as well as other designated events. If you forget or aren't able to bring some food, we will pass the hat for your donation of a dollar or two.
If you are traveling down Van Dyke between 16 and 18 Mile Rds., you will spot an Adopt-a-Highway road sign with our club's name on it. Three times a year we gather the phlock and become 'Orange Breasted Parrots' in our safety vests as we clean up this stretch of road and leave the world a little better than we found it.
This year's highway clean-up dates are:
July 14th (rain date July 21)
Sept 8 (rain date Sept 15)
